On 12 April 2019, WRFDA version 4.1 was released along with WRF version 4.1. In this talk, the new features from this release will be presented, including the high-resolution Himawari-AHI radiance data assimilation and the ability of working with WRF’s new prognostic variable of moist potential temperature. Moreover, the WRFDA interface to two fast radiative transfer models (RTMs) was upgraded to the latest version CRTM v2.3.0 and RTTOV v12.1, which allows the use of more advanced features in two RTMs for radiance data assimilation. Some ongoing research and developments will also be highlighted, including new-generation geostationary sensors’ (GOES-16 ABI and Himawari-8 AHI) all-sky radiance data assimilation, radar data assimilation enhancement, and addition of aerosol/chemical data assimilation capability.
