PAST EVENTS:

"Eulerian vs. Lagrangian methods for cloud microphysics" in Warsaw, Poland on April 20-22, 2015. This workshop aimed at bring together researchers working on modelling cloud microphysics. The workshop took place in the CeNT building at the "Ochota Campus" of the University of Warsaw. The workshop topics covered formulation, implementation and validation of numerical models of aerosol, cloud and precipitation microphysics. The axis of the workshop was the juxtaposition of the Eulerian (bulk or bin) and the Lagrangian (particle-based) methods for modelling clouds. The workshop featured three types of sessions: full-length introductory lectures, short presentations as well as discussion panels on topics announced prior to the workshop.

1st International Conference on Frontiers in Computational Physics: Modeling the Earth System was held 16 - 20 December 2012, Boulder, CO, USA. This inaugural four-day Conference on Frontiers in Computational Physics provide a forum for exchanging and sharing experiences, knowledge and on advanced computational techniques, methods, and models for simulation of the Earth System. With computational aspects in focus, the physical emphasis was on natural problems that are complex, coupled and multiscale. Themes include:

  • Global systems and complexity models
  • Global and regional climate, uncertainty quantification
  • Solar variability and space weather
  • Weather, deep atmosphere, planetary boundary layer, air quality
  • Ocean, anisotropy, eddy resolving computations
  • Water cycle, glaciology, ground water flow
  • Geology and geomechanics
  • Multiscale interactions, turbulence, extreme events, subgrid-scale parameterizations

8th WMO Internatinal Cloud Modeling Workshop took place in Warsaw, Poland in July 23-27, 2012 the week prior to the 16th International Conference on Clouds and Precipitation (ICCP). The strategy was similar to past WMO cloud modeling workshops that have utilized observationally-derived case studies to provide a framework for model intercomparisons.

16th Inter national Conference on Clouds and Precipitation (ICCP) took place in Leipzig, Germany between July 30 and August 3, 2012. The conference was organized every 4 years by the International Commission on Clouds and Precipitation (http://www.iccp-iamas.org), which is part of the International Association of Meteorology and Atmospheric Sciences (IAMAS, http://www.iamas.org). The goal of the conference was to provide a venue for the presentation of scientific research in the area of clouds and precipitation and to encourage the exchange of ideas within the international community.
