Announcement of 2008 EULAG Model Users' Workshop
We plan to hold an annual workshop for users of the EULAG model in
Southern Germany close to Munich in September 2008. This workshop will
be jointly organised by Andrzej Wyszogrodzki and Andreas Dornbrack as
local organiser.
In 2006 and 2007 we held small informal gatherings at NCAR, attended
by the primary developers of the model. These true working events turned
out useful, and therefore we want to try a larger meeting, to provide
a venue for exchanging information and ideas among EULAG users.
It appears that there is already over ten research groups all over the
world using EULAG for studies in diverse areas of fluid dynamics. The
various clones of EULAG diverge rapidly due to customized developments.
The primary purpose of the workshop is to outline the current status of
various developments, to inform all users what is available, and thus to
prevent unnecessary duplication of effort. We anticipate this exchange
will lead to an updated master code.
We envision this workshop as a practical, rather than formal event. We
plan on 20 minutes presentations summarizing the scope of work, achievements
and difficulties. The latter one is particularly important as some of
such could have been solved already by others. If there is an interest,
we could offer a series of tutorials on topics indicated by the users.
All interested parties are cordially invited to attend. We require that
those who wish to make a presentation (oral or poster) have hands-on
experience with EULAG or its modules. If you are interested in attending
but prefer not to present a talk or poster, please tell us what specific
topics you would like to see covered.
Please note that we will send future mailings regarding this meeting only to
those who indicate interest in receiving them. We also ask that you let us
know by June 15th 2007 whether or not you are likely to attend, so that we can
make inquiries regarding hotel space. Information on hotel reservations and
the "call for papers" will be sent out in early November 2007.
Please pass this invitation on to people whom we may have overlooked when
making up the mailing list.
We look forward to receiving your feedback and seeing many of you at the Workshop.
