Using all available tilt angles, plus additional processing and a three-step quality control technique for suppressing false echoes, meteorologists at WSI are able to merge conventional radar imagery and NEXRAD reflectivity into a single, accurate NOWrad mosaic that upholds that same standard of quality as NOWrad does today. Regional and national mosaics give broader coverage than a single site. WSI seamlessly incorporates NEXRAD WSR-88D data into NOWrad as soon as WSR-88D radar sites come on-line. NOWrad's automated and meteorologist-validated quality control filters out false echoes, artifacts, and ground clutter. NOWrad uses overlapping radar sites to improve reliability and fill the void of non-operational sites. NOWrad does not depend on any single radar site for data to create the most complete and accurate mosaic radar imagery. With NOWrad, you have greater flexibility in selecting a center point and base map. Mosaics are available in 5-minute (two levels of quality control) and 15-minute (three levels of quality control) updated intervals, and consist of 16 levels of data.
