Computer Information

As we are going through the tutorial, you will download program tar files and data to your local computer, compile and run on it.

  • Do you know what machine you are going to use to run MM5 programs?

  • What compilers do you have on the machine?

Running this modeling system requires Fortran 77, Fortran 90 and C compilers.

The default compile options are provided for Compaq (DEC Alpha), Cray, HP, IBM, SGI, Sun*, and Linux (with either Portland Group or INTEL compiler).

MPI compile options are also provided for the MM5 model.

If you want to add or modify compile options, edit the Makefile in each of the program tar files. You also need to find a working directory that has at least 500 Mb disk space.

* Fortran 90 programs in MM5 system requires Sun's Fortran 90 compiler version 2.0 or higher.
