To organize the diverse spectrum of
development activities in the project,
development teams are designated in five
major areas: model numerics, data
assimilation, model performance, community
involvement, and operational
implementation. WRF development team leaders
are appointed to organize,
coordinate, and oversee the work in each
of these five areas to ensure that
development proceeds according to schedule
and with appropriate interactions
with other parts of the project. Team
Leaders have active involvement in
activities of their respective development
team, and have responsibility for
appointing the membership and head of
working groups that design and carry out
the development strategies in specific
topic areas. These working groups include
scientists who are willing and motivated
to contribute to the effort, and
membership may change as the project evolves.
Working group heads are
responsible for conducting discussions
to formulate specific plans and actions
required in their area, assigning development
tasks among the subgroup members,
monitoring the progress of these tasks,
delivering codes for system components
in their area, and resolving issues or
problems to the extent possible within
the working group. Working level
decisions will be made by consensus within
the group or, as appropriate, with broader
involvement of the development
teams. The initial configuration
of development teams and working groups is
outlined below; working subgroups will
be formed or changed at the discretion
of the development team leaders in response
to the needs of the project.
