May 5, 2001:
Began to run 10 km, 28 level central US domain, time step 60 sec.
Physics: KF, MRF PBL, 5-layer soil model,Dudhia SW/RRTM LW,
NCEP 3-class microphysics.
Initialization: 0000 UTC only.
June 1, 2001:
Change cumulus scheme in the 30 km CONUS run from Kain-Fritsch
to Betts-Miller-Janjic.
July 1, 2001:
Change the CONUS domain from 30 km to 22 km. Same physics as in June.
Time step: 120 sec.
September 1, 2001:
Started to run mass model twice a day.
Model configuration: same as 22 km CONUS.
November 6, 2001:
Switch 10 km central US domain run to mass model.
Physics: KF, MRF PBL, 5-layer soil model, Dudhia SW/RRTM LW,
NCEP 5-class microphysics.
December 1, 2001:
Switch 22 km height model physics to
BMJ, Mellor-Yamada-Janjic PBL, OSU LSM, GFDL radation, and
Eta microphysics.
January 10, 2002:
Increase the number of levels in the 10 km domain from 28 to 52.
Same time step (60 sec) is used.
February 1, 2002:
Switch physics in the 22 km height model to
BMJ, Mellor-Yamada-Janjic PBL, OSU LSM, Dudhia SW/RRTM LW, and
NCEP 3-class microphysics.
March 1, 2002:
Switch physics in the 22 km height model to
BMJ, MRF PBL, OSU LSM, Dudhia SW/RRTM LW, and
NCEP 3-class microphysics.
April 1, 2002:
Switch physics in the 22 km mass model to
KF (new), MRF PBL, 5-layer soil model, Dudhia SW/RRTM LW, and
NCEP 3-class microphysics (ice sedimentation included).
Begin to run 10 km central US domain twice a day with
KF (new), MRF PBL, 5-layer soil model, Dudhia SW/RRTM LW, and

No longer running 22 km height model.
June 1, 2002:
Began to run 48 h, 10 km CONUS domain forecast on Jet (NOAA/FSL).
Physics: KF, MRF, 5-layer soil, NCEP3 microphysics, Dudhia/RRTM radiation.
June 7, 2002:
Switch to use OSU LSM and NCEP 3-class microphysics in the
regional 10 km central US domain. Forecast extends to 30 hours.
February 1, 2003:
Switch physics in the 22 km mass model to
KF (new), YSU PBL, OSU-MM5 LSM, Dudhia SW/RRTM LW, and
NCEP 3-class microphysics.
Start the 22 km CONUS domain run using AVN data, and the same
physics as in the 22 km CONUS domain run using ETA data.
February 20, 2003:
No longer runs the 10 km Central US domain.
May 15, 2003:
Started to run a 4 km central US domain for BAMEX once a day from 0000 UTC.
Physics: Lin, YSU PBL, OSU LSM, Dudhia SW, RRTM LW
Also started the 10 km Central US domain run. Same physics
as in the 4 km domain, plus KF convective scheme.
May 31, 2003:
Switch 22 km CONUS domain's OSU LSM to Noah LSM.
Switch 10 km CONUS domain's microphysics scheme from NCEP3 to Ferrier.
Oct 1, 2003:
Update the code to run 10 km CONUS to developmental version.
Physics: KF, Ferrier, MRF PBL, Noah LSM, Dudhia shortwave, RRTM longwave
Dec 1, 2003:
Switch to YSU PBL in the 10 km CONUS run.
Extend 22 km, 0000 UTC initialization runs from 48 h to 72 h.
Physics used in 22 km runs:
KF, NCEP3, YSU PBL, Noah LSM, Dudhia shortwave, RRTM longwave
Second 0000 UTC initialization run uses NCEP physics:
BMJ, Ferrier, MYJ PBL, Noah LSM, GFDL shortwave and longwave
No long makes the GFS-initialized run.
April 16, 2004:
Began to run 36/12 km two-way nested run, with 36 km domain covering CONUS,
and 12 km domain covering the central US.
0000 UTC initialization only.
Physics used in both domains:
KF, NCEP3, YSU PBL, Noah LSM, Dudhia shortwave, RRTM longwave
No longer makes the NCEP-physics run.
April 28, 2004:
Began to run 4 km sub-continental domain run, 0000 UTC initialization only.
Physics: Lin microphysics, YSU PBL, Noah LSM, Dudhia shortwave, RRTM longwave
