We are developing a new infrastructure to share physics parameterizations by pulling from a single github repository between WRF, MPAS, and CM1, and to test those parameterizations as suites at different regional and global scales for numerical weather prediction. Parameterizations are modified to conform to the Common Community Physics Package (CCPP) framework, recognizing that CCPP compliance is the necessary conduit for later implementation in more complex environments such as the System for Integrated Modeling of the Atmosphere (SIMA). Using the tropical suite in WRF (mesoscale-reference suite in MPAS) as an example, we describe the steps taken to building this shared physics repository, and outline how this implementation will affect the way developers traditionally use to modify WRF, and as importantly ease the way users access the latest versions of physics parameterizations.
