WRFDA 4.4 update and JEDI-MPAS 1.0.0 release.

J. Liu, MMM/NCAR

WRF version 4.4 was released on 26 April 2022, which includes its data assimilation (DA) component WRFDA. In WRFDA-v4.4, there are several new and updated features as well as some bug fixes, as listed in https://www2.mmm.ucar.edu/wrf/users/wrfda/updates-4.4.html. Two main new features are the new capability for assimilating GPM/GMI's microwave radiance data and a new option for aerosol DA with the MADE-VBS aerosol scheme in WRF/Chem. Some more information about those WRFDA updates will be provided in the presentation. On 24 September 2021, JEDI-MPAS 1.0.0, the first release of the MPAS DA system based upon the Joint Effort for Data assimilation Integration (JEDI) software framework, was made publicly available to the community. JEDI-MPAS is a global/regional unified DA system with several DA algorithms implemented, including 3DVar, 3D/4DEnVar, and ensemble of DAs (EDA). JEDI-MPAS analysis is performed directly on the MPAS unstructured mesh with a dual-resolution capability. Moreover, JEDI-MPAS allows satellite radiance DA under all-sky conditions with the introduction of hydrometeor analysis variables. Results from global 3DEnVar cycling experiments using JEDI-MPAS 1.0.0 will be presented.
