Subscribe to WRF News


“wrf-news” is an email list used by NSF NCAR/MMM to communicate with WRF users. Emails are sent to this list for new WRF releases, updates, bug fixes, and user meeting announcements. Subscribers may also access archived emails.

Upon subscribing to the wrf-news email list, you also become a registered WRF user. For registration purposes, it is recommended to use a permanant email address (such as an email from your workplace). Some commercial email sites will deactivate an email account if it is not used for a period of time. We use the email lists only for the purposes stated above.




After subscribing, you should receive an email asking you to confirm the subscription (note that the email may appear in the spam email folder.

The Joint MPAS and WRF Users’ Workshop

The Joint MPAS and WRF Users’ Workshop provides a forum for MPAS and WRF users to share new developments, present research highlights, and discuss topics of interest to users and developers. The workshop is held annually, typically in June.


  • The next workshop will take place 3-6 June 2025.
    Registration typically opens in late March or early April. Subscribe to wrf-news to receive an emailed announcement when it is open.





WRF Tutorial

NSF NCAR provides WRF tutorial classes for new users, which consist of lectures on the components of the WRF-ARW modeling system, as well as practical sessions providing hands-on experience with using the software.

  • The Winter 2025 tutorial will take place virtually Feb 3-7. Registration will open by the end of November, 2024.

  • The Summer 2025 tutorial will also take place virtually, and moving forward, all WRF tutorials will be virtual.
