WRF Preprocessing System Version 3.8.1: Updates

WPS Version 3.8.1

Version 3.8.1 of the WRF Pre-Processing System (WPS) was released on 12 August 2016.

Note: The V3 WRF model is NOT backward compatible with old V2 input files. One must rerun WPS to generate data for real/wrf.

Improvement and Bug Fixes

• ungrib:
  • For high-resolution Gaussian EC grib 1 data, correct a shift by re-calculating dx increment more accurately.
  • Add field descriptors for some HRRR fields to the g2print support routine.
  • For RAP/HRRR datasets: Adding six new soil levels to Vtables and METGRID.TBL (METGRID.TBL.ARW.rap). If using these datasets, make sure to change METGRID.TBL accordingly.
    
  • Correct lowest soil levels from EC and UKMO datasets from 255 to 289 cm, and 255 to 300 cm, respectively (Thanks to A. Callado Pallarès of Spanish Weather Service).
• geogrid:
  • Added computation of sine and cosine of wind rotation angle at U and V points.
