Management for the WRF Model Development Project


In the cooperative development of this complex forecast-model system, care must
be taken to insure an orderly and timely process for developing the various
major components in a consistent fashion and integrating them effectively into
the overall design.  The WRF Model development should be viewed as a community
effort and the project should welcome all who wish to participate in developing
the model system. At the same time, the direction of work within the WRF
Project must be focused within a small group that can work effectively together
to guide the development process.  Thus, the philosophy of this management plan
is to establish a mechanism for broad involvement at the working and advisory
levels of the project, but to maintain a focused group that directs the
development efforts. To meet these objectives, there are three organizational
components the to WRF Project: a WRF Oversight Board, a WRF Science Board, and
WRF Development Teams. In addition, a WRF Project Coordinator is designated to
coordinate work among the Development Teams and with the Science and Oversight
Boards.
