NCEP Global Tropospheric Analysis (1 x 1 degree resolution)
General information about this
dataset
- NCEP Global Analyses on 1x1 degree grids is available every
six hours.
- The analyses are from the NCEP Final Analyses (FNL) which currently
are the same as the Aviation (AVN) run except that a later input
data cutoff time is used.
- For further information about the FNL archives at NCAR:
- This data is available at NCAR since September 15, 1999
- Information about NCEP model products, including where to find
the real-time products, may be found at
http://www.emc.ncep.noaa.gov/index.html, in pages such as
and
- This dataset may be used to generate data to use
with the Noah LSM
How to use this dataset with pregrid
Is this data available to ALL users
- FNL data for the last year is available to
ALL users:
- This data is kept current with the newest data added when
available and data older than one year removed from the site.
- To obtain the data, download from above web site
How to download data automatically
- This option is only available to users with NCAR accounts
- To obtain the data:
- use the script in REGRID/pregrid/grib_misc/get_fnl.csh
- OR use the script available from ~mesouser/MM5V3/Util/get_fnl.csh
- When you run this scripts make sure that you work in a temporary
directory (such as /tmp/$USER, or /ptmp/$USER on IBM).
- Once you have downloaded the files from the MSS, you need to
ftp the files to your local computer. All files must be transferred
with the ftp "binary" mode.
How to download data manually
- This option is only available to users with NCAR accounts
- View the inventory
list to find the file name of the date you are interested
in. Example:
- If you are interested in January 15, 2003, view the Jan2003
list
- You will see a list of file names in the format fnl_year,month_day_hour_analysis
- so Jan 15 will be fnl_030115_00_00
- On NCAR's IBM or other machines, obtain the files by using
this command:
- msread fnl_030115_00_00 /DSS/DS083.2/data/fnl_030115_00_00
- Note: These files are not cos-blocked and therefore
you do not need the "-fBI" option to download the
files.
- Note: These files are not tarred up in bundles,
so you need to download each time individually.
- To read more about downloading the data, read the file-name
note
- Once you have downloaded the files from the MSS, you need to
ftp the files to your local computer. All files must be transferred
with the ftp "binary" mode.
