ECMWF's TOGA Data (2.5 x 2.5 degree resolution)
General information about this
dataset
- The archives at NCAR begin January 1985.
- Data are archived at 2.5 x 2.5 degree lat/lon grid.
- Times are 00 UTC and 12 UTC.
- For further information about the ECMWF TOGA analysis archives
at NCAR:
- Peculiarities/Caveats:
- Sea-surface temperature is not archived. Skin temperature
may be used with some caution. Be aware that ground temperatures
and sea-surface temperatures at coastlines may be unrealistic.
- Geopotential must be converted to geopotential height by
REGRID. Thus, both geopotential and geopotential height
must be specified in the Vtable. See the sample Vtable
linked below.
- ECMWF uses different parameter tables (i.e., GRIB code numbers)
than NCEP for many variables.
- Note -
Usage of this dataset is restricted: [NCAR/DSS]
may distribute this data to US scientists, scientists visiting
US organizations, and Canadian scientists affiliated with UCAR
member organizations only. This data must not be
used for commercial purposes. ECMWF must be given credit
in any publications in which this data is used. A permission
form must be signed and returned to DSS for use of this
data.
How to use this dataset with pregrid
Is this data available to ALL users
- NO, this dataset is not generally available to all users.
How to download data automatically
- This option is only available to users with NCAR accounts
- To obtain the data:
- When you run this scripts make sure that you work in a temporary
directory (such as /tmp/$USER, or /ptmp/$USER on IBM).
- Once you have downloaded the files from the MSS, you need to
ftp the files to your local computer. All files must be transferred
with the ftp "binary" mode.
How to download data manually
- This option is only available to users with NCAR accounts
- View the MSS-file-list
- Find the file name(s) appropriate for your case (look for year
and months). For example, volume name Y16337 is the one for the
March 1993 SOC case.
- Log on to NCAR's IBM or other computer.
- cd to /ptmp/$USER
- Obtain the file using this command:
- msread -f BI Y16337 /DSS/Y16337
- Once you have downloaded the files from the MSS, you need to
ftp the files to your local computer. All files must be transferred
with the ftp "binary" mode.
