MM5 Model Version 3 : Release emails to users

Dear MM5 users,
This email announces the release 3-4 of MM5 model Version 3.
MM5 and MPP source code tar files are updated on anonymous ftp site,
NCAR's MSS, and Cray-accessible disk since November 7, 2000.

The highlights of the 3-4 releases include:

1. Output of 10 m U and V wind components and 2 m temperature
and mixing ratio if MRF PBL scheme is used;
-
Output of time-series of 14 2-D variables;
-
A simple soil moisture scheme (called 'bucket' model);
-
Improved capability of starting nests using IOVERW=2 option
with ISOIL=2 LSM;
-
Capability to update SST, snow cover, and sea ice during long
simulations on both coarse and nest domains;
-
A second LSM from Pleim-Xiu (considered a beta release);
-
Porting MPP MM5 to Alpha Linux, and Sun MPI.
The detailed changes are described in the CHANGES file in the top
directory. The new tar file can be obtained from several locations,
including NCAR's MSS and anonymous ftp. The detailed changes are
provided in Diff/diff.07NOV00 inside the tar file.
For those of you who are thinking of using V3, please read the 'Introduction
to V3' Web page before you start. A newly updated Tutorial Notes/Users'
Guide for Version 3 is also available from URL:
