MM5 Model Version 3 : Release emails to users
|
|
Dear MM5 users,
This email announces the release 3-5 of MM5 model Version 3.
MM5 and MPP source code tar files are updated on anonymous ftp site,
NCAR's MSS, and Cray-accessible disk since December 5, 2001.
For information on where to obtain the 3-5 source code, please see
http://www2.mmm.ucar.edu/mm5/mm5v3.html
The highlights of the 3-5 releases include:
-
A new Kain-Fritsch scheme which includes shallow convection
physics;
-
Coupling of the OSU land-surface model with Eta PBL;
-
FDDA option made available with Eta PBL;
-
New thermal roughness options for Blackadar and MRF PBL;
-
A simple snow model when LSM is not used;
-
Use model-prediced cloud information in CCM2 radiation scheme;
-
Output of 10 m U and V wind components and 2 m temperature
and mixing ratio for Blackadar and Eta PBL;
-
Updated Reisner 2 and Goddard microphysics schemes;
-
updated Pleim-Xiu LSM.
The detailed changes are described in the CHANGES file in the top
directory. The new tar file can be obtained from several locations,
including NCAR's MSS and anonymous ftp. The detailed changes are
provided in Diff/diff.05DEC01 inside the tar file.
NCAR is discommissioning its last Cray in January 2002. We have
updated many of our job scripts to run on IBM, including a batch
job deck to run MM5. We are also building a Web page to help users
running jobs on IBM. Please visit
http://www2.mmm.ucar.edu/mm5/mm5v3/ibm.html
This page will be updated periodically.
For those of you who have their favorite MM5 files in Cray format,
it is time to convert them in IEEE format while Cray is still available.
