MM5 Modeling System Version 3
MM5 Pre-Processing Programs Version 3 : Release emails
to users
|
Dear MM5 users,
This email announces the release 3-5 of Version 3 preprocessing
programs: TERRAIN, REGRID, RAWINS, LITTLE_R, INTERPF, NESTDOWN,
INTERPB, GRAPH and RIP.
All source code tar files are updated on anonymous ftp site, NCAR's
MSS, and Cray-accessible disk since December 5, 2001.
For information on where to obtain the 3-5 source code, please see
http://www2.mmm.ucar.edu/mm5/mm5v3.html
The highlight of changes in each program is described in the CHANGES
file in each of the program tar file. They are also poste on the
Web:
http://www2.mmm.ucar.edu/mm5/mm5v3/changes-v3.html
The changes include:
-
Allowing additional 3D fields to pass through pre-processing
programs (for example, cloud information). If microphysics fields
are available in input files to INTERPF, lateral boundary conditions
will be computed and provided to MM5 model;
-
Removing or increasing limit on the number of processing times
in RAWINS and LITTLE_R;
-
Capability of producing surface FDDA analysis for MM5 in program
LITTLE_R;
-
Changing vertical levels in NESTDOWN;
- Generating intermediate files from INTERPB, and pass them through
pre-processing programs.
NCAR is discommissioning its last Cray in January 2002. We have
updated many of our job scripts to run on IBM, including most get-data
scripts, and fetch deck to get data to run LITTLE_R. We are also
building a Web page to help users running jobs on IBM.

For those of you who have their favorite MM5 files in Cray format,
it is time to convert them in IEEE format while Cray is still available.
